September Community Roundup: Connecting, Celebrating, and Giving Back

September was packed with opportunities for the OURCU team to get out into the communities we serve, connect with local organizations, and support causes that matter. From school events and wellness fairs to community celebrations and fundraisers, we spent the month building relationships and giving back alongside our members and neighbors.

Here's a look at where September took us.

Starting the Month with Local Educators

On September 1st, we kicked off the month at the Elma School District Benefits Fair.

It was a great opportunity to connect with teachers, staff, and school employees as they prepared for another school year. We enjoyed sharing information about OURCU's services and learning more about the people who help shape the future of our community every day. Thank you to the Elma School District for the warm welcome. We're proud to support local educators and the important work they do.

Honoring Veterans and Active Military Members

On September 17th, OURCU was honored to participate in Foofaraw, a beloved South Sound tradition that celebrates veterans and active military members.

The event brought together service members, community leaders, volunteers, and local businesses for a day filled with appreciation, connection, and fun. From the scenic boat cruise hosted by the Olympia Yacht Club to games, conversations, and the legendary salmon barbecue… Foofaraw continues to be a special way to recognize those who have served our country!

We're grateful to the Thurston County Chamber, Olympia Yacht Club, and the many volunteers who help make this event possible year after year.

A Day Focused on Security, Wellness, and Community

September 19th was an especially busy day for the OURCU team.

First, we hosted our Free Community Shred Event at our Elma branch. Community members stopped by to safely dispose of confidential documents, helping protect themselves from identity theft while clearing out old paperwork. Many attendees also brought canned food donations to support local food banks, turning a simple shred event into an opportunity to help neighbors in need.

Later that day, we joined Summit Pacific Medical Center's Wellness Fair and 5K Fun Run. We had a wonderful time connecting with participants, visiting with other organizations, and cheering on everyone who took part in the race. Events like this are a great reminder that healthy communities are built through both wellness and connection.

Celebrating Growth in Mason County

On September 21st, OURCU joined the Shelton-Mason County Chamber of Commerce and the North Mason Chamber of Commerce for the ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the new Belfair location of Balance Psychiatric & Wellness Clinic and Balance Mental Health Services.

It was exciting to see community members and local partners come together to celebrate an organization that is expanding access to behavioral and mental health care in North Mason County. We're always happy to support local businesses and organizations that strengthen the communities we call home.

Highlighting the Industries That Keep Our Region Strong

On September 23rd, we participated in the Grays Harbor Showcase: Tour of East County.

The tour offered a behind-the-scenes look at the businesses and industries driving economic growth throughout the region. Seeing the innovation, hard work, and investment happening right here in our own backyard was both inspiring and encouraging. We appreciate Greater Grays Harbor, Inc. and everyone involved in organizing such a valuable event.

Connecting Residents with Valuable Resources

On September 25th, OURCU attended the Mason Transit Authority Community Resource Fair.

More than 40 organizations gathered to share information, services, and resources with Mason County residents. We enjoyed meeting community members, answering questions, and connecting with the many organizations that work every day to improve quality of life throughout our region. Events like these highlight the power of collaboration and demonstrate what can be accomplished when organizations come together to serve the community.

Closing Out the Month with Two Great Causes

On September 26th, we had the opportunity to participate in two amazing events that focused on supporting local youth.

First, our team headed to the Centennial Guild Scholarship Golf Tournament at Salish Cliffs Golf Club. Even with rainy skies overhead, spirits were high as teams gathered to help raise scholarship funds for local students. It was a wonderful way to wrap up our golf tournament season while investing in educational opportunities for the next generation.

Later that evening, we attended the Shamrock Shaker, a fundraiser benefiting the Grays Harbor Youth Backpack Program.

The event brought together sponsors, performers, volunteers, donors, and community members for an evening of music, celebration, and giving back. Most importantly, the funds raised will help provide food to local school-aged children throughout the school year. It was inspiring to see so many people come together for a cause that makes a real difference in the lives of local families.

Looking Back on a Great September

As we look back on September, one thing stands out: our communities continue to show up for one another.

Whether we were connecting with educators, honoring veterans, supporting wellness initiatives, celebrating local growth, or helping raise funds for students and families, every event reflected the strong sense of community that makes our region special.

Thank you to our members, community partners, volunteers, and neighbors who welcomed us throughout the month. We are grateful for every conversation, every partnership, and every opportunity to give back.
