OURCU Joins Peninsula Credit Union to Support Spokane Wildfire Relief

The devastating wildfires burning across Spokane County have displaced families, destroyed homes and businesses, and disrupted communities throughout the region. In response, Our Community Credit Union (OURCU) and Peninsula Credit Union are partnering to support credit union employees, volunteers, board members, and institutions affected by the disaster.

As member-owned financial cooperatives rooted in Washington communities, both credit unions are encouraging members, local businesses, and community members to contribute to the GoWest Foundation Disaster Relief Fund.

"Our credit union movement was built on people coming together to help one another through difficult times," said Phil Prothero, CEO of Our Community Credit Union. "We are proud to partner with Peninsula Credit Union and the GoWest Foundation to support those impacted by the Spokane County wildfires. Every contribution can make a meaningful difference for someone beginning the recovery process."

The GoWest Foundation Disaster Relief Fund provides emergency assistance to credit unions and the people who serve them following natural disasters. Eligible credit union employees, volunteers, and directors who have experienced displacement or property damage may apply for up to $1,500 in immediate assistance. Credit unions may also receive support for operational disruptions, temporary facilities, employee needs, uninsured property damage, and other recovery-related expenses.

Jim Morrell, President and CEO of Peninsula Credit Union, emphasized the importance of cooperation during times of crisis.

"People helping people is more than a philosophy," Morrell said. "It is a promise that we will support one another when challenges arise. We invite our communities to join us in helping those affected by these devastating wildfires."

How You Can Help

Community members can support relief efforts by donating directly through the GoWest Foundation's donation page. When making a donation, select "Yes" when asked if your contribution is intended for disaster relief efforts.

While this fundraiser supports members of the credit union community affected by the wildfires, OURCU also encourages community members to also support other trusted organizations assisting Spokane County residents and families during this difficult time.
