Community Roundup: October 2026

October was one of those months that seemed to fly by.

Between community events, fundraisers, career fairs, food drives, and Halloween celebrations, the OURCU team stayed busy connecting with the people and organizations that make our communities special. Every event gave us the opportunity to strengthen local partnerships!

Here's a look back at some of the highlights from October.

Talking Careers with Local Students

On October 6th, we had the opportunity to participate in the NMHS Beyond Bulldog Career Expo.

One of the best parts of events like this is getting to talk with students about what comes after graduation. Our team shared information about career opportunities within the credit union industry and answered questions about the many different paths available in financial services. Thank you to North Mason School District for inviting us to be part of such an important event.

Shredding Documents and Helping Families

On October 10th, community members stopped by our Mountain View Shred Event to safely dispose of confidential documents.

Thanks to the generosity of those who attended, more than 400 pounds of food and $145 in donations were collected for The Saints Pantry Food Bank. It's always inspiring to see our community come together to help local families, and we're grateful to everyone who participated.

Celebrating What Makes Credit Unions Different

On October 15th, we celebrated International Credit Union Day, joining credit unions around the world in recognizing the positive impact of the credit union movement.

For us, the day was a chance to reflect on what makes OURCU special. Every day, we're reminded that our greatest strength isn't found in buildings or technology. It's found in the members, employees, and communities that make up OURCU. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your financial journey.

Standing with Survivors

Also on October 15th, our team wore purple in support of Turning Pointe Survivor Advocacy Center and Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

While it may seem like a small gesture, it represented an important message of support and solidarity. We are proud to stand alongside organizations like Turning Pointe that provide resources, advocacy, and hope to survivors throughout our region.

Supporting Animals in Need

On October 17th, OURCU proudly supported Toast for Tails, an annual fundraiser benefiting Concern for Animals.

The event brings together animal lovers, local businesses, and community supporters to help provide care and services for animals in need. It was wonderful to see so many people rally around a shared cause and contribute to an organization that makes such a meaningful difference.

A Busy Weekend Full of Community Spirit

October 23rd was packed!

At Mason General Hospital's Trunk or Treat, more than 900 attendees came out for an evening of Halloween fun. Our team fully embraced the occasion with an X-Men themed trunk, and we were honored when it was voted Best Community Trunk. More than anything, we loved seeing families make memories together and watching kids enjoy the event.

That same evening, we also supported EmPOWER 2026, benefiting Turning Pointe Survivor Advocacy Center. The event celebrated the resilience of survivors while helping raise support for services that continue to make a difference in the lives of individuals and families throughout our community.

Halloween Fun Continues

The Halloween season wasn't over yet.

On October 25th, we joined the Griffin Neighborhood Association Trunk or Treat at Steamboat Square. Families filled the area in creative costumes, and it was great to see neighbors gathering together to enjoy a fun fall tradition.

Then on October 30th, we wrapped up the month at the Downtown Shelton Halloween Spooktacular. Community members stopped by our downtown branch throughout the day to grab treats and celebrate the season. Events like these may seem simple, but they play an important role in bringing people together and strengthening community connections.

Looking Back

As we look back on October, we're reminded how fortunate we are to serve communities that consistently show up for one another.

Whether we were meeting with students, collecting donations for local families, supporting survivors, helping animals, or handing out candy at community events, each experience reflected the same spirit of connection and service that inspires us every day.

Thank you to everyone who attended an event, stopped by a booth, volunteered, donated, or simply shared a conversation with us along the way. We appreciate every opportunity to be part of these wonderful communities, and we can't wait to see what November brings. 🍂
